// why I do this

Promoted on a Friday. Managing on Monday.

Most of us became managers by accident. Someone left, the team grew, and the person who knew the system best was asked to step up. We said yes, often reluctantly, because it felt like the right thing to do.

The support never came. Junior engineers get onboarding, documentation and code reviews. New managers get a title and a calendar full of 1:1s.

I work with managers, and with the companies that promote them, so nobody has to learn this job alone.

Things engineering managers tell me in our first session

"My boss and my team want opposite things."

#managingup

"I still code in the evenings because my days are all meetings."

#productivity

"I miss building things. Should I go back to IC?"

#careers

"I know I need to give that feedback. I just haven't."

#underperformance

"Leadership expects us to ship twice as fast now that we have AI."

#ai#delivery

"Product keeps changing priorities and my team pays for it."

#stakeholders

"We doubled, and nothing I do works anymore."

#scaling

"My best engineer just told me they're leaving."

#retention

"Two of my seniors can't stand each other."

#conflict

"Promotion season is coming and I can't justify my picks."

"What does senior even mean now?"

If your managers are saying these things, they probably aren't saying them to you. Let's talk about it.

How a team coaching programme works

  1. Step 1 · kickoff

    Scoping call

You and I talk through your team, your managers and what you want to be different by the end.

  2. Step 2 · first weeks

    Self-assessment

Each manager maps their strengths and blind spots and sets goals with me, privately.

  3. Step 3 · throughout

    Coaching

1:1 sessions on their real situations, plus group sessions where managers learn from each other.

  4. Step 4 · at the end

    Insights report

You receive anonymised patterns across the team and where to invest next. Individual sessions stay confidential.

// worth knowing A full programme typically costs less than one mid-level engineering hire.

I strongly recommend Zaharenia's coaching for any high-tech engineering team or organisation.
Manos Dramitinos · CTO, Epignosis
"Through our discussions, I learned how to trust my team more, delegate effectively, set clearer expectations, communicate difficult feedback openly, and balance the expectations of leadership with those of my team."
Laertis Anastasopoulos · VP of Engineering, Agora Labs
"The program helped me reflect more deeply on my leadership style, strengthen my confidence in important areas of management, and become more intentional in the way I support my team."
Rozy Franses · Senior Director of Engineering, Orfium
